Am I the only one that noticed that Google killed the Netscape platform and launched their own operating system?

Some thoughts for you.

• Originally, Netscape was a platform for developing software applications, an operating system if you will.
• AOL stepped in and funded development.
• Microsoft got scared and paid AOL a large sum of money.
• AOL eventually dumps Netscape to open source and Netscape becomes Mozilla.
• Google steps in and starts funding Firefox.
• Firefox development splinters the Mozilla community between those who remember that Netscape/Mozilla is supposed to be an application platform (old school contributors) and those who want a browser to defeat Internet Explorer (new developers to the community).
• Firefox developers cripple the Mozilla platform by removing core components of the platform for the sake of speed, claims of difficulty working with the code, various other reasons.
